However, basic marines aren’t really bad at anything, they’re just expensive, so if you take them they won’t let you down. When your other option is taking three times as many wounds and attacks for less than a third of the price… The choice seems quite obvious. Their stats are, of course, solid, because they’re Astartes after all, but they cost 13 point. They aren’t good, specially if you compare them to the dirt cheap Cultists. However it is better fit for casual games.īad: this will almost never be seen in competitive games, and won’t even be that useful in casual games unless you play it very well or spend a lot of resources to make it work.Ĭhaos Space Marines: let’s be honest here, Chaos Space Marines are the weakest part of the Chaos Space Marines Codex, sadly and a bit ironically. Normal: this will rarely be seen in competitive games, but still has it’s uses and could work in some builds. Good: this will be seen in some competitive games, it’s effectiveness depends on the rest of the army and because of it not every list will find it as effective, but in general it is a good thing to take/ use. The only exception is when playing anti-meta lists, which is one of my favourite things to do in tournaments, and you take a lot of these to counter the most played types of lists. Taking some of this options in your army can be very solid, but don’t only depend on them as then you’ll find yourself frequently playing against counter armies and it won’t be fun for either of the players. Situationally very good: this is neither better nor worse than good, it is something that won’t always come into play but, when it does, it will be awesome. Very good: this will be seen/ used in a lot of competitive games and will be useful in most lists. Now onto troop choices available to CSM, which are quite limited, but mandatory to get command and so are featured in almost every army, as well as being our source of screens.
